Dambusters 65th anniversary flypast!

Here’s a couple of videos from the BBC:
Dambusters anniversary flypast
I watched the whole thing live on the news and unfortunately the footage of the Tornado’s and the Spitfire/Hurricane low pass over the dam were cut from the edited version.

PDF File Attachments.

Embedding an attachment into a PDF file is pretty much a useless feature seeing as Adobe have blacklisted most file extensions and the only way around this, I believe, is to remove |.zip:3 from the registry key: cDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms which should at least allow you to open winzip files that are embedded in your pdf document. This solution is most likely a show stopper for most end users because I seriously doubt many people would want to tamper with their registry, especially as the idea of embedding files is to make it easier for the end user and not more difficult. However after checking the registry I noticed that there were no blocks in place for files compressed with 7 Zip (.7z) and after testing this out I found it worked perfectly with no need to adjust the registry what so ever. Now .7z isn’t the most popular file compression but that doesn’t matter seeing winrar is.. And winrar can unpack 7 Zip files. SO all you have to do is embed your attachments as 7 Zip compressed files then zip your PDF file using Winrar and if they can open your pdf document then they’ll be able to access the attachments.

Main Screen

I got tired of the default images for the main screen so I decided to add some new ones. I hope to design new frames and maybe buttons as well over the next few days/ weeks, depending on how much time I have to spend on this little project.
Here’s the download link if you’d like to try it out: Main Screen
To install just add the “main-screen.dds” file, from the above link, here C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\FUI\Common. Make Sure You Backup The Original first.
Note: The Mig-29A picture is in fact the navy Mig-29K. It just looked cool as small image so I used it.

CDDS Tutorial Version 3.

CDDS Tutorial v 3 for Lockon: Flaming Cliffs
If you want to know how to install textures into Lockon as CDDS files and how to create new skin slots for aircraft, with compatible 3D models(.lom), then have a look at this step by step guide that will hopefully make it very, very easy for you to understand. Section 5, “Replacing Textures” in CDDS files is now compatible with “Modman 6.3.0.1″.
There are several benefits of installing textures as CDDS files but the main ones are that you’ll see the same FPS when using high res textures that you would when using the default ones.. and you can create your own custom skin packs which makes the backing up and reinstalling of your favorite skins an extremely fast and simple process.
I’ve created two PDF files a Light version (590kb) that links to the software and plugins you’ll require and a Heavy version (6.5mb) that has most of the software and Plugins you will need embedded into the PDF file itself.
Just click the links below to view or right click and then click “Save Link As” or “Save Target As” depending on whether you’re using Firefox or IE.
